Tendulkar drives online IPL ticket sales

Not just on Twitter, but master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar is driving e-commerce traffic too. Thanks to Tendulkar captaining the successful Mumbai Indians, the e-commerce site Bookmyshow.comhas broken all records, selling around Rs 80 crore worth of IPL-4 tickets in the first week itself, which is the total business it did during the entire IPL season last year. Promoted by Bigtree Entertainment, Bookmyshow.comis the officiale-commerce site for IPL tickets for four out of 10 IPL teams. It now expects at least a 25% jump in its online sales of tickets this year, crossing 12-million ticket sales-mark in 2011, thanks to IPL-4. In fact, Mumbai Indians are the only team whose tickets are sold a couple of days before the match closely followed by Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI teams. Tendulkar recently hit the one million follower-mark on Twitter within a year of joiningthe micro-blogging site.
“Tendulkar is a big factor that isdriving sales of tickets on Bookmyshow.com. The 32,000 tickets for Wankhede stadium are always sold out in advance before the Mumbai Indians match as fans just want to see Tendulkar perform,” Ashish Hemrajani, founder-CEO, BigtreeEntertainment, the holding company for Bookmyshow.comtold FE. Bigtree Entertainment, in fact, is the turnkey provider for the Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians will play seven out of their 14 IPL-4 matches at Wankhede stadium. Encouraged by IPL's response, Bigtree Entertainment will now sell online tickets for India's first Formula One Grand Prix on October 30, scheduled at JaypeeSports International at their new racetrack near Greater Noida.
